Generally, in a dual-heat house, the heat pump capacity suffices, to keep your house warm down to 0 degrees Celsius. As temperatures drop, the furnace is called into action at a much higher expense for the property owner. Heating a with a heat-pump costs about 2.2 cents for each kilowatt of heat produced. When the oil heater is called into action this expense skyrockets to an equivalent of around 14 cents per kilowatt.
