Cushendun village had been designed for Ronald McNeill; the MP that is conservative and later Lord Cushendun into the form of a Cornish village by the designer Clough Williams-Ellis. He is buried within the Church of Ireland graveyard near his nationalist cousin Ada or Ide McNeill; Roger Casements friend and admirer who passed away in 1959. Since 1954 the majority of the village while the parkland around Glenmona towards the north is owned by the National Trust. Cushenduns picturesque seaside setting in ones heart for the Antrim Coast and Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; as well as its unique architectural inheritance; resulted in designation as a Conservation area in 1980.
